"Still Recording": A film by Saeed Al Batal and Ghiath Ayoub in its world premiere in Venice Film Festival

Saeed is a young cinema passionate trying to teach the youth in Eastern Ghouta in Syria the rules of filming, but the reality they face is much harsher to respect any rule.

With a Camera shooting and documenting in besieged Ghouta and Doma,  Saeed Al Batal and Ghiath Ayoub begin their first international journey with their feature-length documentary “Still Recording” (Produced by Bidayyat-2018) to 33th Venice International Film Critics’ Week.

 

The film is selected with other six international films from South Africa, Germany, France, Italy, Montenegro, and Qatar  to enter the official competition starting from 29th of August and ends on 8th of September. This Week is the oldest sidebar of Venice International Film Festival, and it selects seven first-time feature length films.

 

Saeed is a young cinema passionate trying to teach the youth in Eastern Ghouta in Syria the rules of filming, but the reality they face is much harsher to respect any rule.

His friend Milad is on the other side of the fence, in Damascus, under the control of the regime finishing his studies in Fine Arts.

At one point, Milad decides to leave the capital and joins Saeed in under sieged Douma where they set up a local radio station and a recording studio. They hold the camera to film everything until one day the camera films them…

 

The film is produced by "Bidayyat" and "Rusl", and coproduced by Films de Force Majeure and Blinker Filmproduktion and it has received a post-production grants from Doha Film Institute, Berlinale World Cinema Fund, and CNC.
